Advanced super-resolution optical microscope

 

A defining example was the development of an advanced optical microscope based on microsphere-assisted super-resolution technology.
 

The challenge was not simply to demonstrate the scientific principle. The technology needed to be transformed into a reliable optical system capable of delivering exceptional performance in a practical and commercially viable instrument.
 

This involved developing specialised optical components, designing and optimising the complete microscope system, establishing reliable manufacturing processes, improving performance and repeatability, and supporting the transition from prototype to commercial product.
 

The result was a commercially launched white-light super-resolution microscope capable of achieving optical resolution beyond the conventional diffraction limit.

The technical leadership behind Dverga
 

Dr Sébastien Vilain

Founder & Fractional Technical Director


 

With more than 15 years of experience across optical engineering, nanophotonics, advanced microscopy and deep-tech product development, Sébastien has worked throughout the journey from scientific research to commercial technology.

His career began in fundamental optical and nanophotonic research before moving into the development of advanced optical systems and scientific instruments. He subsequently led product development programmes, bringing emerging technologies from early-stage concepts and prototypes through engineering, manufacturing, validation and commercialisation.

His experience includes the development of advanced super-resolution microscopy technologies, optical systems, specialised objective lenses and nanophotonic technologies, as well as leading
multidisciplinary teams and working directly with customers, suppliers, investors and commercial partners.

This combination of scientific depth, engineering experience and product leadership is at the heart of DVERGA.
